Department of Defense In Tri-Cities Helping Identify POW/MIA Soldiers
POW/MIA Family Update Event
RICHLAND, Wash-- There are atleast 110 people from our region who want to know what happened to their family member who never returned home from one of our nation's wars.
The Missing Personnel Office of the Department of Defense Travels around the country hoping to give families closure. They stopped in Richland where one of the directors says there was the same number of people seeking answers as there were in Denver, Colorado.
Department of Defense staff says it's not always easy to match up soldiers to families.
"The easy part is determining where they were when they died. The hard part is what next. What happened to their remains if they perished in the jungles of Vietnam, where are there remains?" said Larry Greer, POW/ MIA Office.
Greer says they take DNA test from the families then compare it to unidentified remains they find all over the world.
