This week, during the year of the 66th anniversary of the Baatan death march, "War Stories" brings you the story of how a small group of American rangers were called upon to rescue over 500 American and Allied prisoners of war from a hellish place in the Phillipines called Cabanatuan.
It's a dark chapter in World War II history. The men held at the Cabanatuan Prisoner of War camp were part of the 78,000 American and Filipino troops who had surrendered to the Japanese in 1942.
These men had survived years of unspeakable torture, starvation and tropical disease.
