POW-MIA Flag bill passes Alabama Senate
By JANE MCCARDLE

A bill by State Senator Harri Anne Smith (R-Slocomb) requiring the display of POW-MIA flags on state-owned buildings has unanimously passed the Alabama Senate and has been sent to the House of Representatives for consideration by that body.

Senate Bill 372, sponsored by Senator Smith and co-sponsored by 26 other Senators, mandates that the POW-MIA flag be flown with the American and Alabama flags on all state-owned bUildings and at highway rest areas in Alabama.

Other than the American Flag, the POW/MIA flag is the only flag ever to fly over the White House, and it is the only flag ever displayed in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda.

ÒIt is fitting that we honor all who have been captured or declared missing in service to our county,Ó said Senator Smith Thursday. ÒThe flag will be a constant reminder of the sacrifices not only of those brave Americans still unaccounted for, but also their families who serve as a living reminder that they indeed Ôare not forgotten.ÕÓ
