3:00pm Mtn - Ms. Mary Schantag: Mary and husband Chuck are the POWNETWORK out of Skidmore, Missouri. They have been involved in the POW/MIA issue for over 20 years. Besides a comprehensive database on POW/MIA biographies and issues, they maintain an updated listing of phonies and wannabes. Mary will bring us up to date onthe continuing phenomenon of those who steal the honor from deserving veterans and POWs. She will also talk about theirother activities on behalf of our missing.The Schantags are preparing for the events in Branson, Missouri honoring our veterans where they have been instrumental in organizing this event for years. 4:00pm Mtn - In Honor of Capt. Humbert "Rocky" Versace, US Army: Rocky was the first Army soldier to receive the Medal of Honor posthumously for his actions as a POW in Vietnam. A 1959 graduate of West Point, he was assigned as an intelligence advisor in South Vietnam. Rocky was making an impact especially on theVietnamese children but had plans to return to the US and study for the Priesthood.He was captured by the Viet Cong on October 29, 1963 and speaking fluent French andVietnamese, he could converse with his captors and was so convincing, villagers were starting to believe his statements about democracy.Finally, Hanoi Radio reported his execution on September 26, 1965.I will be discussing information about himand altogether tooshortlife.
