Sgt. Berube finally home: WWII soldier laid to rest in Natick
By Stacey Hart The coffin of Sgt. Joseph Berube is escorted by a military honor guard yesterday at St. PatrickÕs Cemetery in Natick. Berube was shot down over New Guinea 63 years ago during World War II. His remains were recently identified through DNA donated by his brother Normand. Below, Normand Berube holds the flag from his brotherÕs coffin.

U.S. Army Air Corps Staff Sgt. Berube, known as Freddie, was aboard a B-25 Mitchell bomber over New Britain Island in New Guinea when it was downed by Japanese gunfire. Berube and three others died that day, Oct. 24, 1943.
