SEND MIA TEAM TO WTC: CHUCK
By BRIGITTE WILLIAMS

April 24, 2006 -- Sen. Charles Schumer called on the feds yesterday to send in a special military unit to boost the search for the remains of victims.

Standing at Ground Zero with relatives of 9/11 victims, Schumer made an appeal for help from the Joint POW/MIA Accountability Command, which searches for the remains of soldiers designated prisoners of war or missing in action.

"I will be on the phone [today] with [Defense Department] Secretary [Donald] Rumsfeld, pleading with him, asking him to send JPAC," Schumer said.

"I believe Congress will provide whatever sources that are needed so that JPAC can continue to do what they are doing and also to help us here.

Yesterday's demand came in the wake of Friday's discovery of 142 bone fragments on the roof of the former Deutsche Bank building.
