TRENTON - The Garden State Parkway would be a memorial highway in honor of Americans who were prisoners of war or are missing in action under a bill endorsed yesterday by the Assembly Military and Veterans' Affairs Committee. Markers would note the POW-MIA designation.
"The dedication of the Garden State Parkway as a Blue Star Memorial Highway will remind us of the sacrifices made by New Jersey's veterans, past and present," said Assemblyman Jack Conners (D., Burlington), the committee's chairman and a sponsor of the bill. "If we have signage, and people see it, it can be a constant reminder to people who travel that highway."
New Jersey has designated blue star highways - including sections of Route 22 and Interstates 78, 80, 287 and 295 - since 1944. The bill awaits action by the full Assembly.- AP
