Laos, US Cooperate on POW/MIA Issues

Vientiane (VNA) - The Laos-US Working Group has completed the third phase (2004-05) of a joint project to search for American troops listed as prisoners of war (POW) or missing in action (MIA) in Laos.
Between March 3 and April 6, the working group conducted searches and excavations at four places in Taoi and Xamuoi districts in the southern province of Salavan and found some sets of remains, personal belongings, and pieces of aircraft wreckage.
This had been the 49th joint search carried out by the working group since 1985.
So far, Laos has transferred to the US 194 sets of remains. There are a total of 569 American soldiers still listed as POW/ MIAs in Laos.
