Two Northern California National POW-MIA Recogntion Events
I am sending you the information about two very special events that will be taking place in Northern California to pay tribute to our former prisoners of war, and remember those still listed as missing in action.Ê Please share this information with all those you deem appropriate.Ê As always we are determined to carry on with the awareness efforts.Ê Kelli Germeraad, Vacaville
1).Ê On Saturday, September 10, 2005, at 2:00 PM, Vietnam Veterans of America, Napa Valley Chapter 702 with the support of the City of Napa will commerate the Prisoners of War-Missing in Action Day of Observance, at the Veterans Memorial Park in Napa.Ê Veterans memorial Park is located in downtown Napa at the corner of Main Street and 3rd Street.
Highlights of the event will include four ex W.W.II POW's will be awarded the National POW medal by a three star Marine Corps General.Ê An all wars tribute to POW's, Never Forgotten, Inc. will be there with POW-MIA 55 Chevy tribute race car.Ê Steve Stopher will host his Military History on Tour exhibit.Ê A static display of the UH-1 Huey helicopter by AMVETS Post 26, Concord will be present.ÊÊÊ
2).Ê On Friday, September 16, 2005, at 9:30 AM the Vacaville Veterans will host it's annual POW-MIA Recogntion Day Ceremony at the Solano County Vietnam Veterans Memorial.Ê Former W.W.II POW Robert Tharratt.Ê Mr. Tharratt was a 'bubble turret" gunner aboard a B-17 and a member of the 96th Heavy Bomb group during World War II.Ê His plane was shot down over Germany and he spent 8 months as a prisoner of war.Ê This annual ceremony continues to honor the 40+ former prisoners of war who call Solano County home, as well as honors and keeps alive the awareness of those families who still wait for accounting of their loved one.Ê
I hope that each of you will find a way to keep the awareness of this very vital issue alive and attend one of these ceremonies, or a ceremony in your area to honor those Americans who served this nation with honor during a very critical times in our countries history, and to join us in continuing to demand a full accounting of those still missing.
