Hoover students write novel about Aliceville POW camp
A Hoover, Ala. seventh grade advanced class has written a book about the prisoner of war experience of World War II German POWs at Camp Aliceville, and they visited the Aliceville Museum last weekend to promote the book.
The seventh grade ad-vanced reading creative class at Robert F. Bumpus Middle School in Hoover came to the museum on Aug. 20 for an autograph party.
Given a choice of several Alabama landmarks or historical places, the seventh graders chose the Camp Aliceville site and started by getting information from the Aliceville Prisoner of War Museum.
After their research, they wrote the fictional ÒNo Enemies in AlicevilleÓ about the experiences of Aliceville citizens and German prisoners of war at Camp Alice-ville.
Copies of the book are on sale for $7 each.
At last SaturdayÕs event, the students were treated to a hot dog lunch hosted by the Aliceville Rotary Club.
As an additional treat, Philip Schlegel, grandson of former POW Wilhelm Schle-gel from Wetzlar-Blasbach, Germany, also attended the autograph party and was presented a key to the city, as was the Bumpus seventh grade teacher Alice David-son.
