"POW,
MIA Plaque Unveiled At Punchbowl
HONOLULU -- Hawaii servicemen held as prisoners during the Korean War are being
honored at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
A plaque was unveiled at Punchbowl to commemorate POWs and those listed as missing
in action from the Korean War. The plaque sits on marble imported from South
Korea.
"It's a memorable plaque for all Korean War veterans, not only for the
POWs," Korean War POW Rocky Ramos said.
"People should appreciate it. Even if we were POWs, they should appreciate
what you tried to do," Korean War POW Goichi Tamaye said.
Forty five soldiers and marines from Hawaii were prisoners of war in Korea.
One of them died in camp, while two others are listed as MIA.
