Russian Defence Ministry to declassify World War II archives

The Russian Defence Ministry has decided to declassify archives containing information on servicemen killed in action or missing in action during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45. The Defence Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday [11 November] that the armed forces archives service had been ordered to declassify the documents in question by 30 April 2005. "The documents to be declassified include lists of officers killed in action, reports on and lists of rank-and-file servicemen and officers killed in action, operational and combat dispatches, and servicemen's burial logs," a source said.
