"New flag will honor soldiers killed in action

Wednesday, March 10, 2004

The steady stream of reports of U.S. soldiers being killed in the war in Iraq has prompted an idea to design a national flag to honor our nation's K.I.A.s or those "Killed in Action."

The familiar black and white POW/MIA flag honors those who are Prisoners of Wars and Missing in Action. As far as we know there is no national design for this flag. If anyone knows any different, they are asked to contact the address below.

The proposed new design for the K.I.A. flag is being considered as a school project, where high school students can come up with a design for the new flag as a state or national project.

The coordinator of the national 30-foot-by-60-foot POW/MIA flag, which is based out of Pembroke and is sponsored by the National Chapter of Rolling Thunder Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to the POW/MIA issue, is asking all veterans organizations, school departments, businesses, etc. to contact him at: memorialflags@juno.com or write to: K.I.A., P.O. Box 147, Pembroke, 02359. The group has researched the possibility of such a flag already in existence, and has been in touch with the office of the National Alliance of Families which has reported that as far as it knows, no such flag exists."
