"Mass grave of Iranian soldiers found

Shalamcheh, Khuzestan prov, Jan 11 - A mass grave of Iranian soldiers was uncovered at Tanumeh area, Iraq near the location where the Iranian army launched offensive to repulse Iraqi troops from Iranian territory in 1986.

Commander of the Special Committee in charge of digging the war-fronts to locate those Missing in Action (MIAS) Brigadier General Mir Feisal Baqerzadeh said.

He said that remains of the soldiers will be transferred to Iran after the completion of excavation operations. Since March 2003, when the coalition forces unleashed air and ground strikes against Iraq, the search operation for MIAS was virtually halted.

Baqerzadeh called on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to prepare the ground for continued operation of his team in coordination with the coalition command.

Remains of several Iranian soldiers have been retrieved from Abu-Khasib and Douiji in Iraqi territory and were transferred to Iran, he said.
