"POW-MIA flag flown for Speicher over New Mexico's capitol
SANTA FE - A POW-MIA flag was raised outside the Capitol on Monday in honor of a missing Navy pilot from Florida whose jet was shot down in the 1991 Gulf War in Iraq. John Garcia, veteran services secretary, said the flag was intended to draw attention to the case of Navy pilot Michael Speicher, whose designation was changed from killed in action to missing in action in 2001 and changed again to "MIA-Captured" in 2002.
Speicher,
of Jacksonville, Fla., was shot down over Iraq Jan. 17, 1991. Although the debris
from his plane was located, Speicher has never been found.
Garcia said the flag will be flown at the Capitol through Thursday.
Speicher had no connection with New Mexico, officials said.
