Re: Speicher Attorney Named Woman of the Year

Date: June 13, 2004

"Laquidara named Woman Lawyer of the Year

Cindy Laquidara, the city's Chief Deputy General Counsel, was named the Woman Lawyer of the Year Thursday night by the Jacksonville Women Lawyers' Association.

Laquidara was presented the award by JWLA President Paula Brice at the organization's annual judicial reception at the Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art.

"She is an example of perseverance, dedication, service and professionalism," said Brice.

In addition to her work for the city, Laquidara represented at no charge the family of Navy Capt. Scott Speicher, whose plane was shot down over Iraq in 1991 in the first Gulf War. She lobbied Congress and the Pentagon for information about the whereabouts of Speicher and appeared on many newscasts to talk about the case.

Laquidara is the past chairwoman of the commercial litigation section of the Jacksonville Bar Association and was a senior shareholder in her last law firm. She is now the second-ranking lawyer in the city's Office of General Counsel.
