Re: POW-MIA Recognition Day - September 14th, 2004

"2004 National POW/MIA Recognition Day
September 14, 2004

The 2004 POW/MIA Recognition Day Poster is Now Available!!! This commemoration is set aside to honor the commitment and the sacrifices made by this nation's Prisoners of War and those who are still Missing in Action, as well as their families. By custom, it is often observed in Pentagon ceremonies on the third Friday in September, however, it has been moved in the past to avoid conflicts with religious observances. In 2004, it will be observed on Tuesday, September 14, 2004, out of respect for Rosh Hashanah.

Military units, municipalities, veterans' posts and chapters that have not made final plans may want to consider changing their dates of local observance, however, final decisions rest with local planners depending on the needs of the community. National POW/MIA Recognition Day is one of the six days specified by law on which the black POW/MIA flag shall be flown over federal facilities and cemeteries, post offices and military installations.
