"POW
museum boasts new exhibit on food
ANDERSONVILE -- Andersonville National Historic Site, home of the National Prisoner
of War Museum, announces the opening of a new temporary exhibit at the POW Museum
in conjunction with National POW Recognition Day.
This recently opened exhibit features documents and items that demonstrate the
role of food in the POW experience. The exhibit shows the commonality of the
POW experience related to food over time.
A POW during the Civil War dealt with the same types of food problems that POWs
in World War I and II, Korea and Vietnam had. Many of us take food for granted
on a daily basis. This has never been the case for POWs.
For them there are always concerns: Will there be food? Will it be enough? Will
it be something I've ever seen before? Will I have something with which to prepare
and eat the food I manage to get? The items currently on exhibit explore these
matters.
