Re: New Book: Will My Son Be a Prisoner of War

Date: April 19, 2004

"Quinte - Will My Son Be a Prisoner of War?

A frequent contributor to The Community Press has just published his first book entitled Will My Son Be A Prisoner Of War?
Eugene Moshynski settled in the Quinte area in the early 1950s and has grown to be a lively and engaged member of the local scene to this day. At the encouragement of friends and business associates who knew some of the story of this remarkable man, he finally set about to scribe his memoirs and enrich the text with over 100 drawings. Now it is published.
With so many of your readership having a military connection and the impact of war such a current topic of discussion, his book sheds a front line and behind the scenes view of the Nazi era in particular, and the post-war trauma of building a life in a new country from a standing start of $2 and two suitcases!
With April marking the 59th year since the liberation of the camps, it would be timely for your paper to cover the completion of his book for its historical merit and local connection.

The author explains.
"The original intent was to record my life history and that of my family for the benefit of my children who knew little of our family’s story. Television, as in so many households, dominated family downtime. There was little interest by them in our family tree and there were some memories not to be casually discussed at the dinner table or as bedtime stories.
“The book is about three generations of my family who survived occupations, incarcerations and deportations as a result of the unrest in their time. My grandfather was caught in the patriotic conflict with the occupying forces of Czarist Russia. Then my father was sent to a Russian prison, caught in the chaos of the communist revolution. Finally it was my turn when in 1940, I was arrested and transported to spend five years at the Dachau Concentration Camp in Nazi Germany.
“The title, Will My Son Be A Prisoner Of War? is more than the understandable concern to avoid yet another generation caught in the crossfire of history in my own family, but in anyone’s!
“No one’s son deserves to experience such Hell as we did.
“Thanks to the support of a few friends the book is complete. Anyone interested in an average man’s remarkable story can learn more and order it from the web site at <www.dachausurvivor.com>.
“I assure you that you will find it far more interesting than any fairy tale! " Eugene Moshynski"
