Re: POW-MIA Flag to Fly Over Statehouse

"General
Assembly approves flying POW-MIA flag on public buildings once a year
(Columbia-AP) March 23, 2004 - The General Assembly has approved a bill to have
the POW-MIA flag fly one day each year on public buildings and on the Statehouse
grounds.
The flag has the white silhouette of a prisoner of war on a black background
and the inscription, "You are not forgotten."
The flag would fly or be displayed on "POW-MIA Recognition Day" in
September each year at state buildings, except at the Statehouse, if flags are
provided. Other flags at public buildings would be flown at half staff at least
until noon on that day, except for the Statehouse.
The Defense Department says 1882 Americans remain missing in South East Asia
since the Vietnam war ended in 1975. They say 8100 servicemen are unaccounted
for since the 1953 Korean War armistice. They say 78,000 are missing from World
War Two.
