"Bridge dedication to POWs, MIAs relocated
Staff Report

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The dedication of bridges on U.S. 1, between New Smyrna Beach and Port Orange, to prisoners of war and missing-in-action soldiers has been relocated to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4250, which is at 2350 Sunset Drive in New Smyrna Beach.

The ceremony is still scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, but it was moved from the bridge because of safety and parking concerns.

Speakers at the ceremony include state Rep. Suzanne Kosmas, D-New Smyrna Beach and state Sen. Evelyn Lynn, R-Ormond Beach, who sponsored the legislation dedicating the bridges.

Organizer Tom Ryan said the bridge is the only one in the state and one of five or six nationwide that are specifically dedicated to the country's more than 90,000 POW and MIA soldiers since World War I.
