June 27, 2003 -- Audra Schroeder KFOX News at Nine Weekend Anchor/Reporter

Specialist Hernandez who was one of eight prisoners of war in Iraq decides to give another four years to the Army and a lifetime to his girlfriend.

Friday he became the second ex-POW from Fort Bliss to re-enlist in the Army.

Hernandez asked his commander, Captain Troy King to deliver the oath.

King was with Hernandez and the other 507th soldiers when they were attacked on March 23rd in Iraq.

Capt. Troy King, 507th Maintenance Company I didn't get to see him for a long time and when he came and found me, I didn't know what to say to him. That's why I brought the company over with me. He's such a great soldier."

Spc. Edgar Hernandez, Re-enlisting, "I feel proud of the whole 507th and the 11th Brigade. And I'm just thankful for everything for always being with me and taking care of me. And I just feel proud of all of you guys."

Specialist Hernandez is promising four years to the army and a lifetime to his girlfriend, all on the same day.

Hernandez, "We had already planned to get married today. Because I don't know, we had the day off."

And KFOX was the only station invited along when the happy couple tied the knot.

Edgar Hernandez and Edleen Aguilera were married by a very emotional Judge Julie Gonzalez.

Judge Julie Gonzalez, "Very surprised. The minute I saw the waiver and his name. It's a real privilege to marry this young man."

The Army Specialist re-enlisted in the field of dentistry. He will train to be a dental assistant. Hernandez will be moving from El Paso. He will be stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.
