"Aging Sisters Secure Plaque for Brother Who Died as POW in WWII
Eighty-seven-year-old Kathleen Drew and her 80-year-old sister, Sara, last saw their brother Harold Fanning board a train in Janesville in 1941. He was in the Army and headed overseas.
His family believes Harold was stationed in the Philippines on December seventh, 1941 when Japanese planes bombed Pearl Harbor.
But it wasn't until two years later, his family learned he was a POW. Two months later they were notified of Harold's death.
With help from the Rock River chapter of the Vietnam Veterans, the sisters applied to the federal government for a bronze plaque to be placed on another brother's gravestone at the Milton cemetery.
