"Remains of Viet soldiers recovered in Cambodia
The remains of about 1,700 Vietnamese soldiers killed during Hanoi's decade-long occupation of Cambodia have been recovered and repatriated during the 2002-2003 dry season.
The Vietnamese military says of the 1,700 sets of remains found, 247 have been identified and returned to their home provinces for burial.
The military has recently begun using DNA technology on teeth and bone fragments in the identification process.
Vietnam began search and recovery operations for its missing in action in July, 2001 in partnership with the Cambodian military.
It was only then that Vietnam acknowledged the full scale of its losses in Cambodia, admitting more than 10,000 soldiers were killed or went missing during its 1978-1989 intervention to overthrow the Khmer Rouge regime.
