"PRAVDA - Americans searching for tomb of US pilot shot by Japanese in 1945 in Kamchatka
Representatives of the Russian-US Joint Commission for Prisoners-of-War and Missing in Action will be working in the Kamchatka Peninsula (Russia's Far East) on June 20-30.

This is already the first visit by the commission's representatives to the peninsula, the press service of the Kamchatka regional administration told RIA Novosti.

The purpose of the visit is searching for the tomb of an American pilot shot by the Japanese near Cape Araise of Paramushir Island on June 16, 1945 and the examination of the US bomber which made an emergency landing near Malaya Khodutka volcano, 125 kilometres off Petropavlovsk. The Americans want to find out the bomber's number and ratings of its engines to get information on its registration and date of the flight.

The previous visits helped the search group of the international commission to find out the circumstances of the crash of a Lockheed-Ventura dive-bomber shot by the Japanese near Shumshu Island which made a failed emergency landing by Mutnovsky volcano. "
