"Senior US Army officer praises Vietnam for MIA assistance
The United States has thanked Vietnam for its efforts to find American servicemen who are still missing in action, said the US Armys Deputy Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General John LeMoyne.
Lt. Gen LeMoyne ended his four-day visit to Vietnam on Monday, as part of the 73rd operation of the joint Vietnam-US Full Accounting Task Force, which is searching for US servicemen who disappeared during the American War in Vietnam. He inspected the site of a plane crash in Ba Ria Vung Tau province, where both sides are seeking American MIA remains.
The Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP), under the Foreign Ministry, briefed LeMoyne on Vietnams collaborative efforts. LeMoyne met with Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Dinh Bin and the Armys Deputy Chief of General Staff, Lt. Gen Nguyen Duc Soat. The officials informed LeMoyne of the Vietnamese Governments wish to continue cooperation with the US to build friendly relations based on fairness, respect and mutual benefit.
They said the Vietnamese Government would make further efforts to facilitate searches for missing US servicemen. They also proposed that the US should work with Vietnam to overcome other consequences of the war.
