"Former POW's Given EPCC Scholarships

The former POW's from Fort Bliss' 507th Maintenance Company are getting some help getting an education.
The group gathered with members of El Paso Community College at Fort Bliss where each former POW received a one-thousand dollar scholarship for each semester. The money should cover tuition, fees and books according to EPCC officials.
The money will cover up to 60 credit hours or an associate's degree.
Dr. Richard Rhodes/EPCC President
"This is a small gesture but if it were not for the soldiers who serve our country, such as these individuals, none of us would enjoy the freedoms that we enjoy today to learn and the learning environment is so important to this nation."
Rhodes says the scholarships will be honored so long as the soldiers make the required GPA.
