"Congressional Black Caucus Honors Ex-POW
Army Spc. Shoshana Johnson's Convoy Was Ambushed In March

WASHINGTON -- A former prisoner of war honored by lawmakers is calling for prayers for soldiers in Iraq and elsewhere.

Army Spc. Shoshana Johnson was praised by the Congressional Black Caucus in a ceremony that resembled a church service.

Johnson was a member of the Fort Bliss, Texas-based 507th Maintenance Company, which became separated from its convoy and was ambushed by Iraqi forces near Nasiriyah in March. Nine members died in the attack and five, including Johnson, were held prisoner for three weeks.

The Black Caucus honored Johnson, who is black, for her "valor, patriotism and sacrifice."

Johnson, who was shot in both ankles, wore a cast and stood only briefly during her remarks.
