"POW/MIA Cage Walk headed to city
From Staff Reports
CUMBERLAND Troops captured by the enemy during the Vietnam War were transported, and often had to stay, in tiger cages.
To raise awareness of those conditions and in the hopes of increasing the return of prisoners of war and those missing in action a POW/MIA Cage Walk is taking place nationally.
The walk will arrive in Cumberland on Monday and the tiger cage will be set up on the Downtown Cumberland Mall. Times for the three-day event, however, have not yet been announced.
The Rolling Thunder Inc. chapters of Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C., are involved in the national event. In addition to accelerating the rate by which POW/MIAs come home, the idea is to recognize the financial and mental cost of those who have served and are serving our country.
The group left Lansing, Mich., on March 15 and have traveled the nation.
Members will leave the city Thursday and travel to Hancock. They plan to be at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial for the Memorial Day weekend.
