Re: Permanent POW-MIA Observance Day Petition
From: POW-MIA InterNetwork
Date: April 23, 2003
FROM AII POW-MIA: Although there is a National POW-MIA Recognition Day, which is observed on the third Friday of every September, it is not a permanent or fixed observance. The President of the United States must authorize its observance every single year.
Even though National POW-MIA Recognition Day has been authorized every year since its inception, some feel that at some point in time, a President may not be as empathetic to the issue of Unaccounted-For Prisoners and Missing, and the day will not be authorized by Presidential Proclamation.
As a result, Robert Seelbach (the Scott Speicher sign flap veteran) has started a petition to make National POW-MIA Recognition Day a fixed and permanent observance.
