Valley soldier still MIA in Iraq

By ALLEN ESSEX Valley Morning Star
WASHINGTON, D.C. — An Army spokesman at the Pentagon said Saturday there is still no word on Army Sgt. Edward John Anguiano, who has been missing since March 23.

Anguiano, 24, a mechanic in the 3rd Infantry Combat Support Battalion, based at Fort Stewart, Ga., has been missing since his convoy was ambushed by Iraqi forces in Nasiriyah.

A graduate of Brownsville’s Hanna High School, Anguiano is a Los Fresnos resident.

"He’s the only soldier in that status (missing in action)," said Army Lt. Col. Ryan Yantis. "Efforts are under way to locate him. We certainly haven’t forgotten him."

There are also Marines and Air Force personnel who are missing in Iraq, Yantis said. "We’re looking for all of them."

The ambush of Anguiano’s convoy led to the capture of five other soldiers from Fort Bliss. However, Army Spc. Edgar Hernandez, of Alton, and six other soldiers have been rescued and were returned from a hospital in Germany to Texas on Saturday.
