4 Kuwaiti martyrs laid to rest; Amir, Crown Prince send condolences

KUWAIT CITY : Four Kuwaiti martyrs - Fahd Suleiman Al-Enezi, Nasser Ayed Al-Otaibi, Hamad Mohammed Al-Ajmi and Taleb Ameen Saleh were buried Tuesday along with a Saudi martyr, Fahd Aqeel Al-Zafairi. Sources said the remains of these martyrs were located at the Samawa mass grave in Iraq. They were all killed towards the end of 1991 - while they were allegedly kneeling blindfolded, with their hands tied behind - with a bullet in the back of their head. All of them had earlier been listed as POWs after being arrested by the Iraqis during their occupation of Kuwait in 1990-91.

The burial of martyrs Fahd Al-Enezi, Nasser Al-Otaibi, and Hamad Al-Ajmi at Sulaibikhat cemetery was attended by the Deputy Premier and Interior Minister, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Sheikh Mohammed Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, family members of the martyrs and a huge crowd of sympathisers.

In the Shiite section of Sulaibikhat cemetery, the Undersecretary of Ministry of Defense, Sheikh Sabah Al-Nasser Al-Sabah, attended the burial of martyr Taleb Ameen Saleh alongwith Taleb's family members and other relatives of the martyr. Later, speaking to pressmen, the Deputy Premier and Interior Minister, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said 'the security situation on the Kuwait-Iraq border is under control." The official spokesman of the committee in charge of searching for POWs, Fayez Al-Enizi praised the American system used in the DNA finger printing to identify the remains of martyrs.

Sources say still 127 samples collected from the Samawa mass grave remain to be identified. Samples collected from the Sabhan cemetery will be difficult to identify because the bodies had been put in nylon bags when they were buried, they added. Earlier in the morning, His Highness Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah sent cables of condolences to the families of all the above martyrs. In his cables of condolences the Amir expressed his heartfelt sorrow, and respect for those who had served their country. "May God bless them all," he said.

His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah also sent cables of condolences to the families of the martyred Kuwaiti POWs. Cables were sent to the families of Taleb Ameen Saleh, Fahd Suleiman Al-Enezi, Hamad Mohammed Al-Ajmi, Nasser Ayed Al-Otaibi and Mesfir Muhanna Al-Heyeni, expressing Sheikh Saad's deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by the martyrs for Kuwait.

Sheikh Saad also sent a similar cable to family of Saudi Arabian national Fahd Aqueel Al-Zafiri, whose remains were also found and identified along with the other five martyred POWs.In the cable, Sheikh Saad said the sacrifices made by Al-Zafiri embodied the deep ties that bind Kuwait with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
