"Author speaks on state's 39 WWII POW camps
Did you know that during World War II Western Wisconsin "hosted" many German prisoners of war? Wisconsin native, Betty Cowley, has written Stalan Wisconsin about this forgotten part of Wisconsin's WWII history.
Cowley will give a talk on the history associated with Wisconsin's 39 POW camps at the fall registration of the Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR), Aug. 22, 9:30 a.m. to noon.
The registration will take place at Room 208 of the Home Economics Building, UW-Stout. Parking will be available in the upper lot #24, east of the Home Economics building.
The fall registration for the ILR is the time for paying the annual $25 membership fee, as well as to sign up for the many courses and trips that are featured for the fall session.
This year for the first time the ILR will sponsor some classes in Eau Claire for the convenience of our members who live closer to Eau Claire than Menomonie.
Some of the featured classes this fall are Reading Poetry, The Life of Jefferson Davis, Beginning Bridge, Music in Our Lives, and the Film Series. The popular wine and food pairing experience will be available, as well as slide shows and short trips.
Call 715-232-5230 for more information."
