Recently completed excavations by the Army's Central Identification Hawaii, in support of Joint Task Force-Full Accounting (JTF-FA) will result in 17 sets of remains to be honored at a joint arrival ceremony.
The remains will be honored at the ceremony by an all-service honor guard in front of the 15th Air Base Wing Operations Building at Hickam Air Force Base on July 10 at 9 a.m.
A total of nine sets of remains believed to be those of American servicemen unaccounted for from the war in Southeast Asia will be honored at the ceremony. Five sets of remains were recovered by military and civilian members of JTF-FA and CILHI during excavations in Vietnam conducted earlier this year. Three sets of remains were recovered by similar teams during recovery missions earlier this year in Laos. An additional set of remains from Laos was recovered during an excavation completed on July 3.
Recently completed excavations by CILHI team members in North Korea have resulted in the recovery of a total of eight sets of remains believed to be those of American servicemen unaccounted for since the Korean War. These remains will also be honored at the arrival ceremony. Following the ceremony, all 17 sets of remains will be taken to CILHI where they will undergo an extensive forensic identification process. "
