"Two women bound by a helicopter crash in Vietnam will meet
MASSILLON, Ohio (AP) -- Two women bound by the deaths of a five-man American helicopter crew 32 years ago in Vietnam plan to meet for the first time May 25 when their loved ones get military funerals.
Bettie Stanton of Massillon, whose brother, Ronald, was killed in the crash, and Shayne Henderson of Gatlinburg, Tenn., whose husband, Henry Knight, was a victim, will attend a funeral for them at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
Military officials recently identified their remains, which were discovered seven years ago.
Bettie Stanton said her brother felt it was his patriotic duty to serve his country.
The helicopter took off from an airfield on the coast of South Vietnam on a resupply mission in 1968. The crew was supposed to land in Ban Me Thuot, but never made it.
``I'm looking forward to meeting her,'' said Henderson, who's since remarried. ``We'll have a lot in common. We've all shared sort of a common bond for 32 years.''
Bettie Stanton said it's been five years since she gave a blood sample to compare her DNA genetic material with remains discovered in 1994."
