Re: More Losses - The War That Never Ends

Date: April 08, 2001

The neverending war has claimed new casualties. Yesterday we were profoundly saddend by the news that recovery team personnel, surveying for MIA recovery operations, were killed in a catastrophic air crash 250 miles south of Hanoi.

For the first time since the formal cessation of hostilites, US personnel have been killed in action in Vietnam. They were not unwilling, they were not unsure, they were not thrust into the heat of combat... they were dedicated professionals who on a daily basis lived and worked under privation and with great sacrifice. Yesterday, they made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty trying to accomplish the ultimate goal... returning America's missing sons from a long ago war and bringing peace and closure to the families who have maintained the vigil.

They were Killed in Action, combatants in a different war. Fighting a war against time, faded memories and the ravages of 3 decades of jungles, bad weather and conditions, and treacherous terrain.

Our prayers go out to those left behind... their families and friends who also must now live with loss and sacrifice. It is no comfort to a grieving widow, parent, child or sibling..... but their sacrifice was made in the process of bringing closure and comfort to countless others. They served well and with honor, they gave their all. They will forever be remembered for that.

To the family, friends and all the members of JTFFA, CILHI and other recovery personnel...

May the love of friends bring you comfort, may the love of God bring you peace.
