Re: F-15s Missing Over Northern Scotland
Date: March 26, 2001
From the USAF -
"03/26/01 - ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England (AFPN) -- Two F-15C Eagles stationed here are confirmed missing during a routine training mission over Northern Scotland, RAF Lakenheath officials said.
The F-15s and their crews are assigned to the 493rd Fighter Squadron, a part of 48th Fighter Wing.
The F-15 Eagle is an all-weather, extremely maneuverable, tactical fighter designed to gain and maintain air superiority in aerial combat.
Search and rescue efforts by the Ministry of Defence from RAF Kinloss to locate the two aircraft have been suspended overnight. The search will resume at first light with assistance from two U.S. Air Force MH-53 helicopters stationed at RAF Mildenhall."
