The reports the USG didn't want you to see.

Over the years the Defense Department has created and released the National Intelligence Estimates (NIE and S NIE). Immediately upon their release researchers, family members and activists have found glaring errors, omissions and outright fabrications... and made them public. In many instances the DoD has found it necessary to author a debunking document to attempt to counter the damage.

In 1998, the NIE was not released... it was classified, and a summary offered for public consumption. Sentor Bob Smith (R-NH) authored 'A Criritcal Assessment' of the NIE 98, which also was immediately classified. For almost 3 years, folks have fought to get the NIE 98 and the Smith Critical Assessment declassified and released.

In our continuing effort to provide the public with access to critical materials, we are placing both documents in our Archives. Although heavily redacted, the scope of the NIE is apparent. However, it is the Smith document, A Critical Assessment' of the NIE 98 that is a must read.
