Re: POW Camp Video Game

Date: February 28, 2001

A recent poll showed the majority of teen boys and young men asked would NOT serve in the armed forces if they were asked or drafted. One wonders how many of them will run out to purchase the the following for the 'experience':

"Codemasters Announces POW

Codemasters announced Prisoner of War, in development for PlayStation2, PC and potentially other platforms. One might guess the Xbox is under consideration. Developed by Wide Games, POW will focus on life inside a WWII Nazi POW camp.

Players will control four allied officers (British, French, Dutch and U.S.) across four different POW camps (Salonika, Stalag Luft I, Stalag Luft III and Colditz Castle). Each officer will have a range of specialities including athleticism, stealth, espionage, charm, and linguistics.

Players are controlled independently, each attempting to escape from his own camp. Eventually the four will come together in Colditz.

POW uses the 3D Atlas engine. Each camp will be carefully recreated in high detail and populated with a full cast of character. Players will be able to interact with all of the characters and objects in the environment.

With the mass of movies, books and TV programs focusing on the plight of soldiers in Nazi camps, it is not a surprise that someone made a game. Besides, killing and being killed by Nazis in games is a great American pastime. "
