Re: Keating & McCain

Date: May 31, 2000

Thought for the day ... Interesting quote...

"Keating Five -- The five U.S. Senators (Cranston, DeConcini, Glenn, McCain, and Riegle) investigated in 1990-1991 by the Senate Ethics Committee for their role in the Savings and Loan disaster. The five senators collectively received $1.3 million for their campaigns and causes from Charles Keating, the free-wheeling, multimillionaire operator of the failed Lincoln Savings and Loan who used his contributions to persuade the senators to thwart investigation of his S&L by federal bank officials.

"One question . . . had to do with whether my financial support in any way influenced several political figures to take up my cause. I want to say in the most forceful way I can: I certainly hope so." -- Charles Keating"
