Kon Tum to restore historic prison
KON TUMÑThe Kon Tum prison in this Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) province has recieved approval for a VND3.3 billion (US$253,846) upgrade.
The French-built prison, used by former regimes to imprison revolutionaries, has been recognised as a national cultural historic site.
The upgrade, to be finished by 2000, will use VND700 million this year to clear land and build an enclosure.
The remainder of the work will include raising the prison's floor to avoid flooding from the nearby Yaly reservoir.
