Re: Korean Excavations and Identifications

Date: October 09, 1998

A military forensic team operating in North Korea unearthed and repatriated what is believed to be five sets of US remains.

In the 3 years since North Korea has 'participated' (if one can say North Korea participates in anything POW-MIA at all) in bilateral excavations, only 20 sets of possible American remains have been excavated.

Although nearly 230 sets of possible US remains have been returned by North Korea since 1990, less than a dozen have been positively identified. There are more than 8,100 unaccounted-for personnel as a result of the Korean War.
