Re: Secret Document Ignored By US For Months

Date: December 01, 1998

Coming on the heels of the Volkogonov 'dirty secret' document bombshell, we now find that the US waited... and waited... and waited before asking about the former Societs about it.

The Volkogonov statement, from his memoirs, said flatly that US POWs were taken by the USSR as part of a KBGB program. It was known to Pentagon officials at least as early as last January, with the White Wash House being notified, as we are told, in March. State was notified no later than April. Yet, Madam Seceretary failed to persue the startling information until a letter was sent to the Russian Foreign Minister... on OCTOBER 29th!

Apparently a letter was drafted in June, however, it was not sent because it was believed that it may UPSET the Russians. There is evidently no consideration of how this obnoxious delay may upset family members.

To recap what Volkogonov, who was a senior Soviet-side official on the US-Russia Joint Commission, the following should suffice... "delivering informed Americans to the USSR for intelligence-gathering purposes...". In addition to not wishing to 'upset' the Russians, State is aid to have had 'more urgent matters to discuss with Moscow.' The researchers considered this a major find that may shed light on the fate of the thousands of POWs and MIAs still unaccounted-for. Vice President Gore was supposed to broach the topic, but was 'side-tracked' with other 'topics.' It wasn't until AFTER the Washington Times broke the story publicly in November that it was brought up in mid-November.

Moscow, unsurprisingly, claims that the document will neverbe released due to National Security... the same catch-all the USG has used for countless years to protect and prevent, at all costs, anything of substance on the POW-MIA to be released or even made available many time to family members.

And people wonder why this issue continues after all these years. Perhaps they should simply ask Washington, De Ceit, Moscow and Hanoi.... they seem to have all the answers, they just aren't sharing.
