Re: Remains Returned From North Korea
Date: November 06, 1998
What is said to be possibly 9 sets of US remains, has been turned over in a repatriatio ceremony in Panmunjon.
Draped with the flag of the UN, 9 caskets were brought to the demarcation line dividing the North and South Koreas, and turned over to the UN Command. The remains were excavated by a joint US-NK team. Because of their place of discovery (Chong Chon River), US officials state they may be of personnel fielded with the US 25th infantry and 2nd infantry divisions killed between November 26 and December 2, 1950 when US forces in the area were overrun by Chinese communist troops.
Forced POW death march victims were also buried in the area.
