Re: US and Laos Search for Missing

Date: October 17, 1998

Eight sites are currently being excavated by joint US-Lao recovery teams in an effort to ascertain the fate of at least 24 POW-MIAs.

AP is reporting that this, the 40th field activity which began on 01 OCT, encompasses three provinces - Savannakhet, Saravan and Xekong.

Savannakhet and Saravan are of special interest given the number of personnel that disappeared and the high profile of some of the loss incidents.

Laos remains the 'Black Hole' of the war with over 500 men and women unaccounted-for, the statements during the war of 'hundreds of POWs' being held and being treated 'adequately', yet none returned.
