AMVETS Remembers POW/MIAs
WASHINGTON, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Marking today's observance of National POW/MIA Recognition Day, AMVETS National Commander Charles L. Taylor issued the following statement:
As we honor our POWs and MIAs on this national day of recognition, we do so with a deep sense of gratitude for the sacrifices they made. In our tribute to these brave Americans, we remember those among us who survived the horrors of their cruel confinement as well as those who did not. We also remember those who are still missing in action or who are imprisoned in foreign lands.
Achieving the fullest possible accounting of these individuals must continue to be our country's highest national priority. In the words of former President Ronald Reagan, until this goal is attained, "We write no last chapters; we close no books; we put away no final memories." Our POWs and MlAs, together with the loved ones they left behind, deserve nothing less.
With this in mind, I urge you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers, not only on this special day, but also throughout the year.
AMVETS is the nation's fourth largest veterans service organization, whose members include veterans from every era -- anyone who has honorably served in the U.S. Armed Forces after Sept. 15, 1940, to include those on active duty as well as in the Reserve Components.
