Re: War Crimes Court and the US
Date: July 20, 1998
Unit 731... Czechoslovakia Human Experimentation Programs...Auschwitz... Pol Pot's Killing Fields... War Crimes.
Ever mindful of the despicable crimes against humanity perpetrated by others a War Crimes Court was created this weekend... but the US won't be a major part of it.
A five-week UN conference led to the creation and statue by which the Court will be chartered and during this period the US tried desperately to insure that the large number of US troops serving abroad under UN command would be protected from 'kangaroo court' proceedings. But the effort fell flat and the US remained one of a handful of hold-outs. The ICC (International Criminal Court) was created to try genocide, crimes against humanity and agression and genocide... All of which we have witnessed in recent memory.
The Court requires 60 countries to sign its charter, estimated to take upwards of 5 years, and will convene an 18 judgepanel in The Hague, World Court.
