In less than 4 days, the US-Vietnam Trade Council has put out a 'News' update on the Jackson-Waiver. They must be anxious.

"Jackson-Vanik Update

On July 7, 1998, Senator Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) will chair a hearing in the International Trade Subcommittee of the Senate Finance Committee on S.J. Invited to testify are Senators John Kerry, John McCain, Bob Smith, Jesse HElms, Assistanat Secretary of State Stanley Roth, and the US-Vietnam Trade Council.

On June 25, 1998, the House Ways & Means Committee voted in support of Jackson-Vanik renewal for Vietnam. The Committee acted by voice vote to reject H.J.Res.120 -- a bill sponsored by Represnetatives Rohrabacher (R-CA), Gilman (R-NY), Smith (R-NJ) and Royce (R-CA) to oppose Jackson-Vanik Amendment waiver for Vietnam. The floor vote in the House is expected during the week of July 27th."
