The men are from the 1st/4th Cavalry of the 4th Infantry division. They were captured by Yugoslav forces along the Kosovo/Macedonia border, reports estimating between 3 to 15 km within Macedonia territory in the Kumanovo region. During the daily NATO briefing, spokemen said -

"Any soldiers that happen under any circumstance to be captured by the Yugoslav armed forces must be treated in a humane way in accordance with international civilized norms of behavior." And, "NATO fully expects this to happen."
