Re: Coming Home After 30 Years

Date: March 30, 1999

The Salt Lake Tribune featured a front page story on a bittersweet homecoming.

Bone fragments from an anonymous grave in Vietnam... a 30 year MIA mystery... a Utah family that never forgot and continued to wait.... an answer, finally

Harold Reid's family never knew what happened to the 20 year old. From the day he went missing while near a bridge in 1967, all anyone knew was that Reid never came home. But there were answers... like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. None making any real sense until pieced together with the others, and slowly a picture emerged.

Reid who had been relieved of guard duty at the bridge was last seen crossing the river to greet a friend. There was a firefight and Reid was gone. But not forgotten. Villagers had known of his death and one quietly wrapped him in a parachute and buried him. Several years later, his remains were moved to a cemetery, long forgotten. And now, 30 years later, with DNA and the ability to make the puzzle into a picture, Harold Reid is coming home.
